Band of the Week: Being Still
Each week here at High Road, we choose one band or artist that we’re not working with, but we think you should check out anyway!
NAME? Being Still
LISTEN TO their single “Smoke & Mirrors” in the number one spot of our “Tight Jeans, Tighter Scene” Spotify playlist.
WHAT DO THEY SOUND LIKE? An intimate pop rock and emo hybrid for fans of Transit, Moose Blood, Valencia. It started as a solo project for frontman Steve Perrino, but quickly evolved into a full band.
WHAT’S THE STORY? “‘Smoke & Mirrors’ is about thinking you have trust in someone and later realizing that trust had been misplaced all along,” says Perrino. “More specifically, the actual narrative in the song was written from the perspective of a friend who went through a rough ending to a long relationship. ‘All these tears were smoke and mirrors’ is referring to the manipulative nature of this person and how strong emotions can get in the way of our judgment sometimes. The bridge of the song ‘I’m doing all of this for me now, I’ll look past your ghost somehow’ is regarding the moment of clarity that you have in these situations when you realize that no matter how much it hurts, you need to keep moving forward for yourself and not let toxic people consume you.”
