Wind Walkers RELEASE VULNERABLE, NEW SINGLE “DEAD TALK”
Hailing from central Massachusetts, five-piece, post-hardcore group Wind Walkers has shared their latest, hard-hitting and vulnerable single, “Dead Talk.” “Dead Talk” exemplifies a range of emotions and highlights the experience of losing a loved one for the first time. Rounding out their lineup with the addition of Trevor Borg at the mic, Wind Walkers’ latest release serves as a springboard for their already storied success. Coming from the personal experience of losing his grandfather, Borg explained,
“Shortly after I began writing to these tracks, my grandfather, who was hands down the most prominent male figure in my life, passed away. Being the first time I had experienced the loss of someone so close, I really struggled to find any sort of peace or closure on his passing. I eventually turned to this track to kind of process my thoughts and emotions on everything happening at the time.”
While Wind Walkers found incredible success in 2018 with their cover of Halsey’s “Without Me,” which garnered more than 11,000,000 Spotify streams and more than 1,500,000 views on YouTube, “Dead Talk” marks the group’s first original release since “Face My Fears” in 2019. Strung together by the melodic highs and lows of Borg’s vocal progression, crushing beats on the drums, and accented guitar chords, “Dead Talk” explores the more raw aspects of metal and offers a sense of understanding while processing personal grief.
“Touching on the early stages where I would daydream so vividly that it felt like he was really with me, to facing the fears of my own mortality and existence, this song ended up being a sort of documentation of my grief process, and I owe it to this track for helping me find closure during that hard time of my life,” Borg shares. “He was always the one I was most eager to show my music to my entire life. So it’s such an unbelievable honor to have my first release with Wind Walkers be a song that commemorates the impact he had on my life.”
To mark their return and new single, Wind Walker has also released a video for “Dead Talk.” Opening with a dim orange-hue with the cityscape peeking through the industrial sized windows, the band are seen performing in an entirely empty room. As the camera zooms in on Borg at the mic, belting out, “Hate myself for forgetting your voice and things you would say,” the band blurs behind him in the background creating a softened presence. Through blurred images of the group and slow-motion effects, the video seemingly represents the passage of time and the vulnerability of life, while Borg continues, “I just want to speak with the dead/Scream with the dead/Should I surrender/Cause nothing lasts forever.” While the track still highlights the group’s signature approach to post-hardcore, it also marks a fresh direction for the band.
The video for “Dead Talk” was directed by Alex Kouvatsos at BlackWolf Imaging. The track was produced, mixed and mastered by Nick Matzkows, with additional production coming from Jon Eberhard. “Dead Talk” will appear on Wind Walkers’ forthcoming EP, which does not currently have a release date.
