SET FOR TOMORROW RELEASE AGGRESSIVELY EMOTIONAL SINGLE, “SOUL PURPOSE”
Five-piece, metalcore unit Set For Tomorrow has shared their aggressively-charged, new single, “Soul Purpose.” Loosely inspired by the 1989 Robin Williams-led film, ‘Dead Poets Society,’ “Soul Purpose” explores the concept of fulfilling your own destiny and creating your own unique path in life. While this creative approach offers a relatable story that effortlessly resonates with an entire generation of young adults, “Soul Purpose” also represents vocalist Patrick Ryan’s personal struggles and emotions to forge his own destiny and live his life according to his beliefs and desires.
“‘Soul Purpose’ is about not becoming the person others envision you to be, and fulfilling your own destiny,” frontman Ryan admits. “It’s loosely inspired by ‘Dead Poets Society,’ and the story arc of one of the character’s being forced to live a life he doesn’t want to by his father. The song isn’t supposed to tell a linear story. Instead, I wanted to capture an [specific] emotion; frustration, anger, resentment, and guilt. I hope when people check this one out, they can relate it to their struggles as well.”
While “Soul Purpose” marks the group’s first single of 2022, Set For Tomorrow previously released their explosive EP Dreaming In Analogue in April 2021. “Soul Purpose” highlights the unit’s attention to detail and expertise, honing in on their alternating clean and unclean vocals to create distinctive highs and lows throughout the track. While Ryan’s vocal prowess acts as the focal point of “Soul Purpose,” his voice layers flawlessly over the group’s intense and intricate guitar work and aggressive drum beats.
Set For Tomorrrow have also released an all-new video to coincide with the release of their single “Soul Purpose.”
“As for the video, there were a lot of obvious ways we could have displayed this meaning to the song, but we wanted it to be vague and abstract and really zero in on the emotion and feelings that Pat mentioned,” the band says. “We went with a more ambiguous approach that leaves room for interpretation from the viewer.”
Through lyrics such as, “I don’t have what it takes to be a man in your eyes/I don’t have the strength to be the one who feels the light/Just let me breathe on my own now/And watch me find the path I go down,” Set For Tomorrow’s “Soul Purpose” exemplifies the struggles faced with having to live up to expectations set by others while simultaneously trying to forge your own path.
The video for “Soul Purpose” was directed by Meridian Film Co. The track was co-written, produced, mixed, and mastered by Mikey Canoy, co-written by Patrick Ryan, and recorded by Set For Tomorrow.
