Katie O’Malley Releases Sultry New Alt-Country Single “Devil’s Got A Hold”
Manchester, UK based blues-rock singer-songwriter Katie O’Malley has just released her latest single, the alt-country-tinged “Devil’s Got A Hold”. The track opens with a stand-up bass and acoustic guitar before sonically blooming with electric guitars, keys, and drums, all providing a low-key, atmospheric music bed for Katie’s sultry vocals.
“I love horror/thriller films and wrote this song about the supernatural elements you normally find in horrors,” explains Katie, “The mystery is the best part of any good horror, and the woman in the story represents a mysterious magical being and everything that intrigues you to want to know more.”
“Devil’s Got A Hold” is the third single of a 3 track EP of the same title, which will be released in November of 2021. The EP features O’Malley’s full band including Richard Neal (electric guitar), Luke Dodd (electric guitar), Steven Taylor (bass), and Aaron Youd (drums). The EP was engineered by Adam P Gorman.
Along with the single, Katie has released a music video, directed by Didzis Starasins and filmed & edited by Imaging House. “It was a fun shoot,” says Katie, “We filmed in Macclesfield Forest and at my boyfriend’s grandma’s house! I loved her retro 70s kitchen and knew I had to create a music video in there at some point and this song was so perfect. She has had so many trinkets everywhere and it was like a creative gold mine for myself and the videographers.” You can watch the video below:
With a voice that pours with emotion and fills a venue, Katie O’Malley and her hip-swaying Americana band have played across the UK. Hailing from Manchester and proud northerners, they describe their sound as mix of country, folk, soul & blues. Their 70’s inspired music takes you on a journey of mournful melody to punchy beats and gravelly powerful vocals with a sense of Stevie Nicks meets the blues. Together, they have received airplay from Amazing radio USA, BBC Introducing UK, supporting top ten album-selling Beth Rowley.
Although 2020 has had many setbacks for artists, it’s not stopped Katie from releasing new music with the release of her third E.P ‘Wild West’ and new single ‘Taste the Dirt’ being backed by Chris Country Radio, Louder Than War and BCMA.
Katie also teamed up with Adam Lewis from Manchester band The Watchmakers. Together they created their song “Piece Of The Pie” which was featured on the hit Netflix film “Kissing Booth 2” gaining over 66 million views in its first few weeks of broadcast.
