Rap Artist Keeper Showcases Pop Punk Roots on “Frog”
UK nu-punk artist Keeper is back with the third single from his upcoming EP, Guess I’m Keeper, out on 3/19.
The latest track “Frog” is a bit more experimental than the first two singles “Homegrown” and “Blue Eyes.” Beginning with his familiar laid-back emo rap delivery, Keeper soon erupts into a huge, explosive chorus. It’s something that gives us a peak into Keeper’s guitar-driven roots, as he is also the guitarist in the pop punk band Jack The Envious.
“The song is about teamwork,” says says Andrade. “When life gives you lemons, you open a lemonade stand with your mates. That although problems, upsets, and issues will always be prevalent in life, it’s through trial, perseverance, and the people around you that allow you to push through. The lessons from Pokémon basically.“
If that wasn’t endearing enough, Keeper says he wrote the song while sitting next to a literal frog.
Though Guess I’m Keeper is a solo EP, it gave Keeper the opportunity to collaborate with various friends in the music industry, which is exactly where Keeper feel’s the most comfortable.
“Music is a creative outlet that lets me express myself and create and tell stories verbally because my English skills are awful,” explains Keeper. “My mother learnt how to make bread, I learnt how to make stories about characters and put them to music.”
