Dropout Kings Follow-Up Grammy Consideration with Trap Metal Rager
After a Grammy consideration for “Best New Artist” and achieving mainstream rock radio success with the Linkin Park-leaning single “Virus,” the Phoenix band Dropout Kings is taking it back to a sound they helped pioneer.
The new single “Hey Uh” could be used by aspiring acts as a blueprint for Trap Metal, fusing dark and distorted beats and bass with haunting synths, scream rap delivery and an overall gritty exterior.
“It’s a rage anthem,” says vocalist Adam Ramey. “It’s a song about feeling unstoppable to the point of arrogance, which in turn, is a metaphor for social political programming that happens throughout America which causes us as a society to sometimes be looked at and stereotyped in that light by others on the outside.“
TLDR: It’s a song about showcasing association of power that comes with bravado and or high confidence
“Hey Uh” is Dropout Kings’ first new single on Suburban Noize Records and will appear on their second full-length album, Riot Music, anticipated for a summer 2022 release.
Dropout Kings, formed in 2016 as Phoenix Down, have already garnered millions of streams from their debut album, AudioDope, which was released August 10th, 2018 through Napalm Records. The group signed to the label before they even performed their first concert, confirming the band’s raw talent and creative fortitude. AudioDope went on to receive rave reviews, being herald for its refreshing yet nostalgic sound while blurring the lines between rock and hip hop. In 2021, Dropout Kings signed with Suburban Noize Records and released their GlitchGang EP. This led to their single “Virus” getting considered for a Grammy for “Best New Artist” and spending 12 weeks on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Rock Radio Charts.
